The Department for Transport (DfT) yesterday opened a consultation to seek opinion on the introduction and value of fixed penalty deposits for foreign drivers who fail to pay the HGV Road User Levy, due to start in April 2014.
Additionally, it asks for opinion on the value of fixed penalty notices which will be issued to any UK driver who hasn’t paid the correct levy for their vehicle.
The Fixed Penalty (Amendment) (No. 2) Order 2013 will state that £300.00 should be set as the fixed sum for a notice, meanwhile the The Road Safety (Financial Penalty Deposit) Order 2009 and The Road Safety (Financial Penalty Deposit) (Appropriate Amount) Order 2009 will be amended to add a fee of £300.00 for fixed penalty deposits.
The DfT is also using this consultation to look at views regarding changing vehicle weight rules in order to bring them in line with current European law.
The consultation closes on the 7th November 2013. To view consultation document, click here.
