Lane hogging, tailgating and other motoring offences will now be subject to on-the-spot penalties.
From the 16th August 2013, the Government has granted police the power to issue fixed penalty notices to drivers who they feel are demonstrating careless driving skills.
Commenting on the changes, Roads Safety Minister, Stephen Hammond MP said: “Careless driving puts innocent people’s lives at risk – that is why we have made it easier for the police to tackle problem drivers by allowing them to immediately issue a fixed penalty notice for low level offending rather than taking these offenders to court.”
A number of graduated fixed penalties, applicable to commercial transport drivers, are also subject to a monetary increase.
