Footage released on the internet shows the much talked about collision warning and emergency brake system now being fitted in Volvo’s new FH series of trucks.
HGV/LGV Training network members and LGV students alike may be interested to watch the attached controlled demo video, showing the new system in action.
This new advancement in LGV safety consists of a radar and camera that can detect if the truck is in a situation where it can potentially rear-end another vehicle.
Visual and audible warnings are activated in the cab and if the driver fails to respond, the vehicle will automatically brake.
We can expect to see similar trucks hitting the market over the next 18 months. New European legislation has set out a requirement that by November 2015, new LGVs will need to be fitted with emergency brake systems.
